There are times when a student needs, or parents prefer, an intense learning support within the home environment. At Academics West, we provide live-in academic coaches and mentors who are highly skilled in teaching compensatory strategies and in utilizing our Clinically Informed Tutoring® method. Our educators work with the local school that the student is attending and any other professionals supporting the student to ensure that academic interventions are effective and collaborative. The coach-in-residence is an excellent way to provide the scaffolding necessary to help a student learn. Our goal is meet the student “where they are at” and to train them on the compensatory tools so they can become autonomous, successful and independent.
Our coaches can be placed in any location within the United States or abroad. Academics West coaches go through an intense screening and training process to ensure that they have the necessary skills to provide the compensatory skills to remediate, educate, and mentor. Each coach is trained in a variety of research-based teaching modalities that are customized to fit a student’s unique learning style. Coaches-in-residence are supported by an educational psychologist who is the team leader and drives the interventions using empirically supported research. If needed, we also provide content specialists who are able to provide supplemental support in every subject or with standardized testing. Students are able to communicate virtually with their content specialist to meet all of their subject area needs (e.g., Spanish, Trigonometry) in a convenient manner.
