There are times during a student’s life when emotional or academic struggles are so problematic that they cannot continue at their current school setting. During these acute times, school administrators will often ask the student to leave until they are stable to return.Academics West is able to help a student continue with all of their classes by receiving one-on-one instruction in a supportive and flexible setting.Although they are not able to remain at school during this time, we collaborate with the student’s school and will help the student finish their coursework through our Credit Recovery Program. This allows the student to learn uninterrupted while typically maintaining their academic status at their home institution.
Academics West is able to help a student continue with all of their classes by receiving one-on-one instruction in a supportive and flexible setting. We work closely with the student’s school to ensure that the student does not miss any course content and can take all of their assessments at our facility. We pride ourselves on being able to rapidly set up a complete academic team for a student so they do not experience a prolonged absence from their schoolwork.
This program benefits many students and situations, but is typically for students who:
- Experience acute school refusal
- Have a medical condition that precludes going to school
- Are returning from another therapeutic setting and need to finish coursework (e.g., wilderness programs, therapeutic boarding school and residential treatment centers)
- Have an acute behavioral or emotional issue that impedes learning
- Students who have moved to the New York City area and need to finish the school year
Students in the credit recovery track benefit from the same academic and therapeutic supports as students enrolled in our homeschool program. Through blending individualized academic and therapeutic support these students are typically able to smoothly transition to our program and complete their coursework. Since our program runs twelve months a year, we are able to help students recover their credit at any point in the school year.
