Standardized Test Prep
Integral to a student’s academic career is taking multiple standardized tests. These tests are challenging for any student and can be particularly difficult for students with mild to moderate learning disabilities and/or chronic emotional issues such as depression or anxiety. Unfortunately, many of the students who fit this profile do not benefit from traditional test prep tutoring because their unique learning and social-emotional profile is not taken into account. It is our mission to ensure that these learners are able to perform their best on these tests so they are not penalized for any cognitive or emotional issues that can impede their academic functioning.
We adapt our Clinically Informed Tutoring™ learning model to the test preparation process. All students undergo our full Learning Style Profile to best understand their learning preferences and to identify any areas of academic weakness. Under the guidance of an educational psychologist, our academic coaches develop tailored strategies that help students effectively prepare for these tests. Many of our students find that the skills they learn at Academics West while preparing for a standardized test have helped them perform better as students in general.
Some of the most common tests we help students prepare for:
- GRE, LSAT, MCAT
- SAT/ ACT
- SAT II (all subjects)
- IB / AP (all subjects)
- ISEE / SSAT
- NYC Specialized HS Admissions Exam
