Community Day 2026: Celebrating a Year of Growth, Achievement, and Community

A dog with a blue collar sits comfortably on a couch, looking content and relaxed in a cozy living room setting.

Every school year tells a story, and Community Day is our chance to celebrate it. From the first day of school to the final applause, this year’s Lower School and Upper School Community Day ceremonies honored the courage, perseverance, friendships, and accomplishments that defined the 2025–2026 school year. Students, families, and staff gathered to recognize academic achievements, celebrate personal growth, and reflect on the moments that made this year unforgettable.

More Than a Ceremony

Community Day is more than an awards ceremony it’s a celebration of every student’s journey. As Head of School Dr. Evan Flamenbaum reminded families, growth isn’t always easy to see while you’re living it. Community Day gives everyone a chance to pause, reflect, and appreciate just how far our students have come over the course of the year. From overcoming challenges to discovering new strengths, every student has a story worth celebrating.

“Sometimes growth is hard to notice when we are living it one day at a time. But when we stop and reflect, we can see just how much courage, resilience, progress, and heart have carried us to this moment.”

Dr. Evan Flamenbaum

Celebrating Every Student

Throughout both ceremonies, students were recognized not only for academic excellence but also for qualities that make our community so special. Awards celebrated creativity, perseverance, leadership, kindness, school spirit, athleticism, mentorship, community involvement, and countless other strengths. Whether a student was recognized for their artistic talents, growth in the classroom, or the positive impact they had on those around them, every award reflected what makes Academics West unique: we celebrate the whole child.

A School That Feels Like Family

One message echoed throughout Community Day: Academics West is more than a school. It’s a family. Whether it’s sharing lunch with a teacher, spending time with a clinician, cheering on classmates, or celebrating milestones together, it’s these everyday moments that help students feel known, supported, and confident enough to grow into the best version of themselves. That sense of belonging is what makes our community so special.

Looking Back on a Year to Remember

Before the awards began, families enjoyed a special Year-in-Review video highlighting many of the memories that made this school year unforgettable. From field trips to the Central Park Zoo and the American Museum of Natural History to visits from therapy dog Hank, talent shows, clubs, athletics, and so much more, the video celebrated a year full of learning, laughter, and connection. The ceremony also recognized many exciting “firsts” for Academics West, including our first-ever Prom, Yearbook, AP class, customized CIA planner, two therapy dogs, new student clubs, and Cognia Accreditation with Distinction.

Celebrating the Class of 2026

For our seniors, Community Day marked the end of an incredible chapter. After hearing heartfelt words of encouragement from faculty and a moving speech from senior speaker Adina Postman, graduates crossed the stage to receive their diplomas surrounded by classmates, teachers, clinicians, friends, and family. As they moved their tassels from right to left, they officially became the Class of 2026 a milestone celebrated with tremendous pride by the entire Academics West community.

Here’s to Another Incredible Year

As another school year comes to a close, Community Day reminds us that success isn’t measured only by grades or awards it’s measured by growth, resilience, kindness, and the relationships built along the way. Congratulations to all of our students for everything they’ve accomplished this year. Whether you’re returning to Academics West in the fall or beginning a new adventure, we couldn’t be prouder of everything you’ve achieved. We can’t wait to see where your story takes you next.
