October Highlights: Trick-or-Treats, Therapy Dogs, and Thankful Hearts

Engaging Students to Become Heroes of Their Own Story

As we step into November, our halls are buzzing with gratitude, creativity, and community spirit. Here’s what’s happening this month at Academics West!

What’s Coming Up This Month

Our November Student Life Calendar is full of exciting events and opportunities for students to connect and grow. From Anime Club and D&D Club to field trips, dance classes, and our Heroes Council Thanksgiving Fundraiser, there’s something for every student to look forward to. Don’t forget there’s no school on November 14 for Virtual Parent Teacher Conferences and November 27–28 for Thanksgiving Break!

Halloween Highlights

Our community celebrated Halloween in true AW fashion with creativity and collaboration! Each classroom transformed their doors into festive works of art for our annual Door Decorating Contest and students showed off their spooky spirit with incredible costumes.

Staff Costume Winner: Dr. Marissa as Lakitu

Student Costume Winners: Middle Schooler Dan as Snorlax

Classroom Door Decoration Contest: Ms. Stephanie (Upper School) – Coraline Themed

Therapy Dogs Joining AW

We’re thrilled to announce that new therapy dogs will be visiting AW on Thursdays and Fridays! These visits will give students a chance to de-stress, connect, and experience the joy of our furry friends as part of our continued commitment to social emotional wellness.

Heroes Council Updates

Our Heroes Council continues to inspire through action!

  • In October, they raised $100 for Breast Cancer Awareness Month by selling handmade friendship bracelets.

This month, they’re organizing a Thanksgiving Food Drive to support local families in need, inspired by recent changes to SNAP benefits and the growing importance of community support.

They’ve also launched a brand new AW Morning Announcements series a virtual broadcast that keeps the community up to date on school events, student achievements, and Hero highlights.

Looking Ahead
November is all about gratitude, giving back, and celebrating connection. These values that are at the heart of the AW community. We can’t wait to see what our students and staff accomplish together this month!
