Summer Semester

Summer Program

The dynamic and intensive six-week summer program at Academics West runs Monday through Thursday from 9 AM to 2 PM, providing targeted academic and social-emotional support for students. Designed to meet a variety of educational needs, this program helps students:

  • Recover up to a full semester of lost credits and stay on track for graduation 
  • Combat academic regression and prevent the “summer slide” 
  • Engage in academic enrichment, community service and extracurriculars options 
  • Fulfill requirements for a 12-month IEP 
  • Receive additional learning and social-emotional support tailored to their individual needs 
  • Improve executive functioning skills through our Clinically Informed Academics®, which provides advanced learning strategies to improve confidence and performance. 
  • With a structured yet supportive environment, our summer semester ensures students gain confidence, strengthen their skills, and prepare for future academic success. 

Program Options

High School/ Middle School Summer Program

Our intensive academic semester empowers students to recover credits, stay on track for graduation, and avoid repeating a school year. With expert educators skilled in teaching all New York State Common Core subjects and enriching electives, we provide a comprehensive and engaging learning experience. Students have the opportunity to become members of the National Honors Society and take an AP course. 

Beyond academics, our dedicated learning specialists help students minimize regression while strengthening essential learning strategies. As a high-support program, Academics West integrates a range of counseling services (e.g., individual and group therapy, art therapy, and more) into the school day, ensuring both academic success and emotional well-being. 

But we know summer should also be fun! Our program features exciting field trips and weekly non-academic activities, creating a well-rounded experience that balances learning with enjoyment.

        Lower School Summer Program: Next Level Friendships

        Give your child the opportunity to thrive in our dynamic summer program. Our lower school summer students participate in a blend of academic enrichment and prosocial activities designed to prevent learning regression, improve self-regulation, and build long lasting friendships. Specifically designed for children ages 6-12, we look at the unique needs of each student and create a plan for summer social and academic success.

        For Students Searching to:

        • Avoid summer academic slide  
        • Build stronger social-emotional skills and connections  
        • Improve foundational academic gaps in reading or math. 
        • Thrive at a summer camps/program due to social/behavioral struggles 
        • Develop skills within a supportive environment

        Date and Time:   

        • Monday through Thursday from 9 am to 2 pm  
        • July 6 to August 12

        Activities:   

        • Individual/Group counseling sessions  
        • Occupational Therapy and Speech Therapy  
        • Expressive Arts and Theatre Program  
        • Park-based Social Development Activities (free play, sports, and social-emotional learning activities)  
        • Prosocial Activities (field days and themed events)  
        • Special Interest Clubs (e.g., anime, Dungeons and Dragons, cooking, and more!)

        Components: 

        Small Group or Individual Academic Support: Part of the day is dedicated to engaging, interactive lessons in core subjects, reinforcing essential skills in a fun and supportive environment. Our experienced educators use hands-on learning strategies, project-based activities, and small group instruction to ensure each child receives personalized attention and support through our Clinically Informed Academics (CIA) approach, which teaches your child to become a strategic learner. 

        Next Level Friendships: Activities such as art, social skills training, and outdoor exploration are designed to create lasting relationships with peers. Infused with fun, the goal is to develop frustration tolerance and improve impulse control in a social setting. Students may participate in mindfulness exercises, team-building activities, and creative expression activities to build confidence and resilience. Our goal is to provide a nurturing environment where students progress academically, socially, and emotionally and realize the true hero within themselves. 

        Weekly Field Trips: Our summer program is filled with field trips and special events to create lasting memories. Whether it’s a visit to a local museum, a nature hike, or a themed activity day, students will enjoy a well-rounded experience that balances structured learning with exciting adventures. 

        This holistic approach ensures a balanced summer experience, fostering both intellectual and social development. We believe that every child deserves an enriching and joyful summer that supports their growth in all aspects of life.
